BY GEORGE IT IS TIME TO VISIT BAR GEORGE!

In Montreal, there are so many inspiring buildings. But the one building that stands out in our mind is the iconic Mount Stephen Club. Originally the home of Sir George Stephen, Scottish Quebecer and businessman extraordinaire. Located on Drummond Street, in the heart of downtown Montreal, the building has been the location to see and to be seen for as long as we can remember.

With the recent renovations completed and the addition of a boutique hotel, the location welcomes visitors and locals alike to the divine dining experience named Bar George. Situated on the main floor, Bar George combines the history of this inspiring building with a splash of modern. Patrons are invited to explore the interior and not only admire the woodwork but also the colourful stained glass. It is a building one must see in Montreal.

A visit to Bar George would not be complete without sampling the cuisine. The English-themed menu with modern Quebecois inspirations pays homage to the original homeowner. Our meal started cocktails of a Pimms Cup and a Dark and Stormy. The Pimms Cup was divine, not too sweet and just the right taste of ginger. The Dark and Stormy was so good it brought back fond memories of Bermuda.

For our lunch, on the patio, we opted for the hamburger topped with cauliflower cheese and served with triple chips and the organic salmon served with kedgeree, hen’s egg, and lime chutney. The meals were prepared perfectly and were both delicious and flavourful. After being tempted with a few more cocktails it was time for something sweet to end our meal. Although the dessert menu was quite good, one dessert stood out, the Stephen’s Mess. The restaurants take on pavlova. It is a sweet concoction of meringue and berries. As it is our favorite dessert, it was a must try and it did not disappoint.

It does not matter if you just have to see the amazing interior design or sample the awesome menu, including Stephen’s Mess, or the superb cocktails. A visit to Bar George should be on your bucket list.
